This notice explains how Valley Accounting ("we", "us", "our") handles personal data collected through the website at valley-accounting.co.uk. It is written to comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
It applies to your use of the website only. If you go on to engage us as a client, the privacy and confidentiality terms of that relationship are set out separately in your letter of engagement and are not affected by this notice.

What information we collect
We only collect personal data that you choose to give us. When you fill in the contact form on this site we receive:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number, if you choose to provide one
- Where you're based, if you choose to provide it
- The topic you select from the dropdown
- The free-text message you write
Our hosting platform records standard server logs when any visitor views a page, including IP address, browser type and time of visit. These logs are used only for security and to keep the site running, and are deleted on the hosting provider's standard rolling retention schedule.
We do not use visitor-tracking analytics on this website. We have access to aggregated, anonymous search-performance reports through Google Search Console; Search Console does not place any cookie on your browser, and the reports do not identify individual visitors.
How we use your information
We use information from the contact form for one purpose only: to reply to your enquiry and, if it leads to ongoing work, to continue that conversation. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
We do not use your information for marketing, profiling or automated decision-making, and we do not sell or share it with any third party for those purposes.
Third parties involved
The website relies on a small number of third-party services:
- Formspark processes contact-form submissions and forwards them to our inbox. A copy of each submission is also stored on the Formspark platform. See Formspark's own privacy policy for details of their processing.
- Google Maps is used to embed a map of Hebden Bridge on the contact page. The embed is only loaded after you accept non-essential cookies; if you decline, no request is made to Google. See Google's privacy and cookie pages for their handling.
- Google Search Console provides aggregated, anonymous search-traffic data to us. It does not set cookies on your browser and we do not see any data that identifies you personally.
- Our hosting provider stores the static pages of this website and records short-lived server logs as above.
How long we keep it
We keep contact-form submissions in our inbox and on Formspark for as long as is reasonably needed to respond to you and to keep a record of the conversation. If you want your enquiry data deleted sooner, write to us at the email address above and we will remove it.
Server logs are kept by our hosting provider on a short rolling retention (typically thirty days) and are then automatically deleted.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- Ask us to delete data we no longer need
- Ask us to restrict or object to a particular use of it
- Withdraw your consent to non-essential cookies at any time using the Cookie settings link in our footer
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you believe we have handled your data improperly
To exercise any of these rights, please write to the email address listed above. We will respond within one month.
Cookies
A short summary of which cookies this site uses, and how to control them, is set out in our Cookie Policy.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time, for example if we start using a new third-party service. The "last updated" date at the top of the page will show when it last changed.
